We receive so many questions from not only those seeking Christian treatment but from those family members who are unsure if their family member is really an addict or alcoholic. here are some recent questions that we seem to get over and over:

We work with families all the time. They have a hard time sometimes accepting that their loved ones are an addict or alcoholic. They often see is it as a moral failing rather than a brain disease. Our clinicians have worked with families, helping them to understand addiction and alcoholism. At our Christian addiction treatment program, we know that it is never easy to take a look at family dynamics and possible have to change the way things are done.
It is much easier to blame the addict as if their behaviors occurred in a vacuum. We are not saying it’s your family's fault! We strive to teach our patients accountability. But, we do know that if the family system is broken, when you leave our Christian rehab and return to the same environment, your chances of relapsing are much greater than average.
We not only encourage family participation, but in most cases require it to the best of our ability. A lot of times patients come into our Christian addiction rehab and they tell us their family won’t have anything to do with them, or there is no way their family would participate in family therapy. Usually, when one of our clinicians calls the family, not only are they willing but they are excited to participate! Most families know when things are breaking down between members. Often, the addict or alcoholics crisis’ push all of that to the background.
We teach families that everyone in the family counts and needs time and attention. The addict or alcoholic has a way with their high maintenance behaviors to take all the attention away from others. Siblings often get neglected and start acting out to receive attention. Spouses/partners are stressed and tired and don’t maintain their relationship. Communication breaks down, tempers flare and the whole family system breaks down. Our Christian drug therapists are specifically trained in Family Systems Theory and can teach the whole family how to be healthy again.
It is not enough to get the addict or alcoholic healthy and functioning in the world. We don’t want to send them home with strong boundaries and a clear head only to have them isolated from family members who have not benefitted from therapy as well!!
