Have you ever been drinking and then stopped and realized you had withdrawal alcohol symptoms? Did you wonder if you could attend a meeting if you were medically safe even though you were shaky? The answer is yes! We have 12 Step meetings of all kinds available while in detox, including alternative meetings!
Although in the 30’s when the original 12 Steps were developed it was common to associate anything considered non-medical with religion, the 12 Steps were deliberately not religious. There were few alternatives for alcoholics or addicts in those days other than being placed in jail or a mental institution. It was believed that only praying to God could cure the moral failings of an alcoholic or addict.
We know so much more now. And think how much more we will know 100 years from now! We know addiction is not a moral issue but a medical issue. We know that religious beliefs aside, there are a number of medicines used to treat addictions and then mental health issues that often come with addictions. In this day and age we have so much more at our disposal and we are discovering new things all the time!
But what about those who did not believe in God, or who questioned the existence of a God? Were they doomed? Absolutely not! Even the founders of the 12 Steps had a part in the book for Agnostics! In the 12 Steps it does not require you to believe in any religious entity or group. If you just want to rely on you, or you have different beliefs concerning religion do not let that stop you from going to a meeting and getting the benefits of the support offered there. No one can go it alone. We all need help and we all need connection with other human beings who know what we are going through and can help us see the light at the end. Addicts and alcoholics are no different!
Let our Christian drug rehab find you the connections you need to get the love, compassion and support you deserve and need to keep on your journey to health and recovery. You’ve come this far, let us help you go even further.
